Managing large-scale international research projects involving multicultural teams poses multifaceted challenges requiring a nuanced and adaptive project management approach. This article explores the strategies employed to manage a multifaceted research and innovation initiative within the “ELLAS – Equality in Leadership for Latin American STEM” Network, focusing on gender gap reduction in STEM fields across Latin America. Combining elements from PMBOK® and agile methodologies. The project integrates a diverse array of institutions and stakeholders from multiple countries. Our study delves into the project’s objectives, team structures, deliverables, and the unique challenges encountered, including multilingual communication, bureaucratic complexities, managing multiple currencies, and ensuring data quality. We detail solutions applied to navigate these challenges, such as tailored communication strategies, hybrid project management methodologies, and proactive stakeholder engagement. By outlining these challenges and solutions, this article brings insights into managing complex international research projects while fostering cultural diversity and achieving project objectives.
