On October 23, 2024, the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) hosted a special event celebrating Ibero-American Heritage Month, reaffirming its commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Computing. The ELLAS project had the honor of being part of this significant moment!
The highlight of the program was the panel discussion “Language as Inclusion or Exclusion: Can Artificial Intelligence Make a Difference?” which explored ways to overcome linguistic barriers in computing and examined how artificial intelligence can help reduce disparities in underrepresented languages.
Moderated by Indira Guzman, the debate featured valuable contributions from Franci Suni, Vinicius Pereira, and Nayat Sanchez-Pi, who shared inspiring insights and proposals for the field.
