Join us at the ELLAS Forum 2025!

On May 7th and 8th, in Niterói, RJ, we will gather to share research and present the ELLAS Open Data Platform (Equality in Leadership for Latin American STEM). ELLAS represents a vast network of people conducting research across different countries, with a project supported by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) of Canada.

The platform highlights structured data on gender equity and leadership in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) from Latin American countries, particularly regarding initiatives, policies, and contextual factors that impact the field. It reinforces our commitment to promoting inclusion and reducing disparities in these areas, especially regarding gender equality in leadership positions at universities, industries, and public institutions.

This is a unique opportunity to exchange experiences, discuss ideas, and connect with experts and partners working in this field!

Schedule:

May 7th: Participant reception, Exploring and using the ELLAS platform.
May 8th: Public opening, Official Platform Launch, Panel (Leadership, Data, and STEM), Networking Coffee, Lecture, ELLAS Talk – policies, initiatives, and factors, Closing session.

ELLAS Talk

You can also participate in the Forum by presenting your experience in reducing gender disparity in STEM. That’s what ELLAS Talk is for!

To participate, send a video of up to two (2) minutes sharing your experience on one of the following topics:

Policies – examples of resolutions in universities, companies, etc.
Initiatives – events, programs, and other actions aimed at the inclusion and retention of women in technology careers.
Factors influencing women’s participation (or lack thereof) in leadership positions in STEM – motherhood, menopause, family care (caring for elderly people), domestic violence, lack of family/school encouragement, socioeconomic issues, among others.

The authors of the selected videos will be invited to attend the ELLAS Forum in person on May 8, 2025, in Niterói – Rio de Janeiro – Brazil. Each participant will have 10 minutes to present their experience to the audience.

In which languages can I submit my video?

Videos can be submitted in Portuguese, Spanish, or English.

What are the recommendations for the video?

The video should share experiences outside the ELLAS network.

We strongly recommend the use of gender-inclusive language: See the United Nations guidelines in English or Spanish.
We recommend using plain language:

– Checklist for applying Plain Language (PDF document at the bottom of the page) (Portuguese)
– Plain Language Guide for Public Servants in Colombia (Spanish)
– ISO Standard on Plain Language (English)

We also recommend using accessibility resources. We suggest the book “Acessibilidade no IHC 2021: relato de experiências”, particularly sections 4.2 and 4.3, which contain tips for creating accessible videos. This will help increase the reach of your video.

Until when can I submit my video?

The submission deadline is February 23, 2025. Selected videos will be announced on March 22, 2025.

What happens if my video is selected?

The authors of the selected videos will be invited to present their experience in person at the ELLAS Forum on May 8, 2025, in Niterói – Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
